On November 8th, District 5 Artist, Sonya Cote, invited community members to join her and herbalist Nikki Telkes, on a Native Edible Plant Walk. Nikki guided participants through the area surrounding the Cherry Creek Community Garden, an area where 25 houses once stood before a devastating flood. As the group walked the grounds, Nikki and Sonya told the stories about the local flora and shared recipes that used plants such as Dandelion, Milkweed, Wild Oregano and Bee Balm. Nikki explained their uses and preparation as Sonya talked about how she uses the plant in prepared dishes. It was a beautiful sun-filled afternoon, and the biggest hit, a recipe for a White Russian made with native plant materials!
